Inspired by Woody Allen’s movie Midnight in Paris, the bar features four rooms representing four different eras in history.

The room closest to the entrance represents the 1960s, where you can imagine Don Draper-types drinking their martinis. The F. Scott Fitzgerald room has the Great Gatsby feel of the Roaring 20s. The Abraham Lincoln room maintains a mid-19th century feel with velvet couches and a bar in the middle. The most opulent and indulgent is the last room, with luxurious sofas, old-looking paintings, and elaborate chandeliers – the Marie Antoinette room.

Each table is equipped with a personal buzzer for calling a waiter.

Dear Irving is located at 55 Irving Place, the address made famous by William Sydney Porter, better known to the world as O. Henry. From 1903 to 1907, he lived on the first floor of the building that occupied this exact place.

The bar shares the name with the street, Irving Place, which was named in honor of the famed 19th-century American writer Washington Irving, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle.” Called the “first American man of letters,” he was one of the first American writers to achieve international recognition.
