The Blue Bar at India House

The Blue Bar is named for its brilliantly-blue color scheme. With oversized neoclassical windows, it feels like an elegant, bright 19th century New York living room.

India House, a New York City landmark, was constructed shortly after the fire of 1835 as a home for the Hanover Bank. Like many banks, the elegant building is designed in the style of a Renaissance palazzo.

After the Hanover Bank moved out, India House served as a space for a host of companies, which included tobacco importers and the New York Cotton Exchange.

The India House was named after the Dutch West India Company, which sponsored Henry Hudson’s expedition to discover the island of Manhattan. The name also hints at the exotic and far away land of the Indies.
