Historic Bars/Restaurants

Alcohol is undeniably a very important part of New York’s history. At one point there were as many as 100,000 bars on the island of Manhattan!

Quite a few of these bars have fascinating stories and tempting cocktails. There is a tavern where George Washington toasted victory over the British, there is a place where you could face Houdini’s ghost, and former speakeasies with unmarked entrances as if the Prohibition were still the law.
